Applications Open for New Operation Lifesaver, Inc. Online Transit Safety Pledge Grant

By Operation Lifesaver

WASHINGTON, DC, Aug. 8, 2024 – Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI), the national nonprofit rail safety education organization, today announced that applications have opened for a new, competitive Online Transit Safety Pledge Grant. The grant offers a total of $10,000 in funding for a transit agency or government entity to develop a creative campaign or project, including success metrics, encouraging users to complete any or all of OLI’s three online transit safety pledges. Funding for the new grant is made possible by the Federal Transit Administration.

“OLI's online transit safety pledges empower people of all ages to make safe choices when entering transit stations and riding trains,” said OLI Executive Director Rachel Maleh. “This new grant will help develop creative ways for transit agencies across the U.S. to use the pledges in their ongoing rail safety education efforts. I urge all transit agencies to consider applying.”

Maleh noted that OLI will offer one (1) $10,000 grant specifically for creative or unique ways to generate interest in and lead users to take and sign any or all of OLI’s three online transit safety pledges:

The grant will not require a funding match; all transit agencies or governmental entities that provide transit service in the U.S. are eligible to apply. OLI must approve all materials created as part of the grant and all grants must be coordinated with state Operation Lifesaver programs. Materials developed through this grant will be made available to other transit agencies to use in their communities. Contact information for State Coordinators throughout the U.S. is available at https://oli.org/state-coordinators.

All applications must be submitted via the Common Grant Application online grant processing program by October 1, 2024. The grant recipient will be announced by November 15, 2024.
