Statement by Operation Lifesaver, Inc. President Bonnie Murphy on Batory Nomination
Operation Lifesaver, Inc., the national rail safety education nonprofit, welcomes the nomination of former Conrail President and CEO Ronald L. Batory as Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). As a veteran railroader, Mr. Batory is aware of the importance of educating the public about making safe choices at railroad crossings and along rights-of-way. Ninety-five percent of rail-related incidents nationwide are due to grade crossing collisions or rail trespassers; our mission is to reduce these incidents.
We value our safety partnership with the FRA, and following his confirmation by the Senate, we look forward to working with Mr. Batory to keep drivers and pedestrians safe, and on preparations for the first-ever U.S. Rail Safety Week, September 24-30, 2017.
